Abstract

Medically unexplained symptoms are a common problem all over the world in primary care, specialist clinics, and inpatient care. Symptoms can be transient or chronic. Patients are usually distressed, disabled, dissatisfied, heavily investigated, overuse health services, and incur health care costs disproportionate to their income. Therefore, this morbidity has implications for the patient, family, society, care providers and the health care system. However, its understanding is still limited.
