Media Briefing on International Twin Congress and Twin Talent Fest

A media briefing was held on the 19th of May at the Institute for Research and Development in Health and Social Care (IRD) in Battaramulla regarding the upcoming Joint 20th Congress of the International Society for Twin Studies (ISTS) and the 8th World Congress on Twin Pregnancy, scheduled for August 10–12, 2025, at Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo.

Hosting this international scientific congress in Sri Lanka presents a valuable opportunity to build confidence in the country’s scientific capabilities, strengthen global collaborations, and promote Sri Lanka as an attractive destination for international conferences, boosting tourism and the economy.

The congress is organized by the Sri Lanka Twin Registry and the Institute for Research and Development in Health and Social Care, which have played a key role in strengthening the country’s research culture for over 25 years. It is supported by several professional bodies including the Sri Lanka College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Sri Lanka Paediatric Association.

A cultural event showcasing the talents of twin children will be held on June 14, 2025, at Ape Gama, Battaramulla. Selected performances will be featured during the congress.

Speakers at the media briefing included Prof. Athula Sumathipala, Director of IRD and Secretary General of ISTS, Dr. Sunil de Alwis, Additional Secretary (Medical Services), Ministry of Health, Dr. Risitha Wakishta Arachchi, Ms. Chamali Jayasingha, and Ms. Inoka Wijesinghe, a parent of twins.
