A Milestone Visit from the World Health Organization (WHO)

We were honored to welcome a distinguished delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) to the Institute for Research and Development (IRD) in Health and Social Care.

The delegation, led by Dr. Rajesh Pandav (WHO Representative to Sri Lanka), included Dr. Farrukh Qureshi, Dr. Momoe Takeuchi, and Dr. Thirupathy Suveendran

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to share the wide range of research activities carried out at the IRD and discuss the national and international impact of our ongoing programs. Key discussions focused on our strategies to convert research into policy and practice by working closely with statutory organizations, particularly the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science and Technology. We also highlighted the vital role the WHO can play in supporting this translation of evidence into action.

During the visit, we presented our 25-year legacy of disaster-related research and service development, alongside an introduction to the IRD branding.

We are deeply grateful for the delegation’s interest, insights, and shared commitment to consolidating service development based on local research evidence.
