Dr. Chesmal Siriwardhana, a research fellow at the Institute for Research and Development, has received the prestigious Professor Robin Murry MSc Award from the Institute of Psychiaty King’s College London, UK.
Dr. Chesmal Siriwardhana is the first recipient of this Award for best MSc dissertation.
This was awarded to him because he obtained a distinction for his dissertation. In addition, he received an overall distinction for his MSc in Psychiatric research. The title of his thesis was ‘Associations between exposure to conflict, tsunami and mental disorders and school absenteeism among Sri Lankan children’ and was a data based dissertation.
King’s College London is a research-led university, one of the top 25 universities in the world (2010 QS international world rankings), was selected as the ‘University of the 2010/11’ and the fourth oldest in England. Dr. Siriwardhana’s MSc is part of a 3-year Wellcome Trust Masters fellowship. This fellowship itself is a competitive and prestigious award by the World’s second largest research funding agency, the Wellcome Trust. He was jointly sponsered by the IRD and Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College last year.
