Abstract

Many disasters involve international assistance and bring together different cultures that might otherwise have limited or difficult interactions. The ethical issues raised by disasters can be seen from different perspectives by different cultures. This chapter will explore such issues, particularly when the disaster may involve, or be impacted by, pre-existing cultural conflicts. The ethical responsibilities of disaster workers towards cultural differences and conflicts will be examined.
